This is how it will look like when it is deployed: Hatches and the lander with recovery system folded inside:

We will design, build and validate a prototype of a small ejectable sounding rocket payload which is capable of collecting data in an on-board memory. The launch is scheduled to March 2010 from Kiruna, Sweden. The KTH Rocket probe project is part of ESA's REXUS 7/8 yearly rocket programme for student experiments. Our proposal was selected as one of the best technical solutions for the umbrella-like inflatable design structure which protects the probe and helps stabilize it during descent, so that it can be reused. This LAPLander design concerns the airbraking, impact protection and recovery systems, along with the study of flight characteristics to evaluate the payload performance.
